In this informative and engaging masterclass, you will learn how to help the children in your care identify and express their feelings as well as develop the capacity to regulate their feelings. Managing Challenging Behaviours in Young Children

When children display challenging behaviours, there can be significant consequences for themselves, other children, and adults. An important part of children’s development involves them learning how their behaviour and actions affect themselves and others and developing the skills to regulate these independently. Educators play an important role in supporting children to regulate their own behaviour and knowing how to respond when children display challenging behaviours is critical.

In this masterclass, I present a new way of thinking about children’s behaviour, address what causes challenging behaviours, discuss which evidence-based strategies are the most appropriate to positively guide children’s behavioural learning, and how you can proactively put things in place to prevent the behaviour in the future. This masterclass is filled with loads of practical examples, tips, and strategies that will make your job easier and help you guide and support children as they develop the skills to manage their own behaviour.

Supporting Children with Complex Needs in ECEC Settings

Recent AEDC (Australian Early Development Census) reporting confirms that at least 1 in 5 Australian children are developmentally vulnerable in one or more domains. More and more children are presenting at early childhood services with multiple complex needs. Each issue in isolation may not be complex but it’s the interaction between these that grows complexity and becomes more challenging for educators to negotiate and respond to. As an educator you are not expected to be a social worker, a counsellor or a clinician. Your role in supporting these children and their families is critically important.

This Online Masterclass has been designed to build your capacity to notice, inquire and provide support to children with complex needs and their families. During the Masterclass I discuss different tools and strategies you can use to understand children’s individual needs and respond to these to support their learning and well-being. It will help you feel more confident knowing when to step in and refer internally, when to refer externally, and when to involve families in the conversation.

Cultivating Children’s Resilience in ECEC Settings

Given its potential to improve children’s short and long-term life outcomes building children’s resilience is an essential part of early childhood education. 83 per cent of experts agreed that increasing resilience among children aged 0–12 could potentially prevent mental health issues during childhood and later in life. Fostering children’s resilience enables them to develop the skills and habits that will help them deal with challenges later in life and lays a strong foundation for positive mental health.

In this Online Masterclass I reveal the protective factors and evidence-based strategies that foster children’s resilience. I cover two of the most powerful factors that build children’s resilience, outline what you can do within your context to utilise these two factors, and present easy to implement tools and strategies that you can use in your everyday practice to help provide the best start in life for our children.

Fostering Children’s Wellbeing in ECEC Settings

A strong sense of wellbeing is fundamentally connected to children’s sense of belonging, being and becoming. High levels of wellbeing are also correlated with resilience and enable children to maximise their learning potential. When children feel well, happy, secure and socially successful they are able to fully participate in and learn from the experiences in their early childhood setting.

In this Online Masterclass I discuss the importance of psychological wellbeing, for both children and staff, and provide practical examples of opportunities for children to make choices, accept challenges, and cope with frustrations. I discuss how educators can balance children’s health and safety with giving them genuine opportunities to explore, experiment, predict and take managed risks. We will look strategies, tips and tools that support you in your important role helping children develop a strong sense of their own worth and feel valued for who they are.

Often personal wellbeing and self-care can be viewed as selfish or indulgent, I believe that it’s critical for early childhood educators. As an educator you play a vital role in young children’s lives which makes your wellbeing very important. Looking after your wellbeing puts you in a better position to support the children in your care.

In this Online Masterclass I take you through the common signs of burnout that gradually creep up on us. Once you recognise the silent symptoms affecting our wellbeing, you can put simple but powerful changes in place to proactively foster your wellbeing. I help you develop a practical plan to support your physical and psychological wellbeing and provide you with tips and easy to implement tools and strategies that you can use immediately in your everyday life.
